The whispers behind her made Holly frown as she tried to remember where she was. One thing was for sure, she wasn’t in her bed or Bear would be at her feet. “Oh my God, Bear!” She shot up in bed and looked around her, her heart breaking all over again as she remembered all that had taken place in the last 24 hours.

But she suddenly noticed her surroundings. Someone had been very busy decorating the cave. The room smelled of pine from the branches of pine needles along the walls, and lit candles had been placed all around their temporary living space. It seemed the brothers were trying to give her a little bit of Christmas cheer even though her life was so messed up.

“I’m here,” Darius said, moving away from Malcolm to sit down on the bed next to her as his brother went outside. “How do you feel?”

“I feel…” She moved carefully, realizing that nothing hurt. She twisted around. Again, nothing. “How?” she asked.

“Every time we breathed over you, heating you, we were healing you slowly. But we sure didn’t think you would sleep 24 hours. You scared the crap out of us, mate.” He leaned in and slid his tongue over her lips before coving them with his own pair. His tongue tasted of chocolate and coffee when he slid it into her mouth to play with hers. Holly moaned as she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled herself closer to him. Lifting her up onto his lap, Darius broke their kiss.

“The Twelve Days of Christmas” came on from somewhere above the cave and Darius sang his own words. “On the first day of Christmas, my brother retrieved, one snarling pet.” Darius nodded to the cave entrance, where Malcolm stood with Bear at his feet.

“Bear!” Holly cried, and the dog ran to her and crawled onto the bed with them.

“Thank you, thank you,” she cried, hugging her baby, tears falling onto his fur as he whined, licking her face, happy to see her.

“You’re welcome, but the next time that creature bites me, I’m going to bite him back and bite his mom,” Malcolm grumbled, coming over to the bed. He fisted his hand in her hair and pulled her head back as he bent to cover her mouth with his.

His kiss was meant to punish her, but it only turned her on. Bear growled next to her, and she couldn’t help but giggle into the kiss, causing Malcolm to snarl, breaking it. “Stupid dog, behave.” He grabbed Bear’s head and stared into his eyes.

Holly thought for sure Bear would jump and take a bite out of him, but soon he was whining and trying to scoot away from Malcolm.

“Behave. Now, go lie down over there.” Malcolm pointed to the front of the cave, and Bear obeyed. Malcolm turned his gaze on her, and his voice sent a shiver up her spine as he sang, “On the second day of Christmas, we give you, the both of us.
